_HOOK ‘EM! Mack Brown Leads Charge as Texas Longhorns Prepare for Showdown with Ohio State_
Austin, TX – As the Texas Longhorns prepare to face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinal, they’re getting a boost of energy and enthusiasm from one of the program’s all-time greats: legendary former head coach Mack Brown.
Brown, who led the Longhorns to a national championship in 2005, was on hand at the team’s practice facility on Wednesday, where he addressed the team and shared some words of wisdom.
“I just told them to believe in themselves and to play with confidence,” Brown said in an interview after the practice. “These kids have worked so hard to get to this point, and I know they’re ready to go out and give it their all.”
Brown’s presence was a welcome sight for the Longhorns, who are looking to pull off a major upset against the second-seeded Buckeyes. The team’s current head coach, Steve Sarkisian, said that Brown’s visit was a great morale booster for the team.
“Mack is a Texas legend, and his presence means the world to our players,” Sarkisian said. “He’s a guy who knows what it takes to win at the highest level, and his words of encouragement meant a lot to our team.”
Brown, who coached the Longhorns from 1998 to 2013, is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in program history. During his tenure, he led the team to two Big 12 championships and a national championship in 2005.
Despite his retirement from coaching, Brown remains a beloved figure in Texas football lore, and his presence is always a welcome sight for Longhorns fans. On Wednesday, he was seen chatting with players and coaches, and even led the team in a rousing chant of “Hook ’em Horns!”
“It’s always great to see Coach Brown,” said Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. “He’s a legend around here, and his passion for Texas football is infectious. We’re all excited to have him behind us as we get ready to take on Ohio State.”
The Longhorns will face off against the Buckeyes on January 10, 2025, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game is expected to be one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the college football postseason, and Brown’s presence will undoubtedly add to the excitement.
As for Brown, he’s just happy to be able to support his beloved Longhorns as they prepare for the biggest game of the season.
“I’m just proud to be a part of the Texas family,” Brown said. “These kids are going to go out and give it their all, and I’m honored to be able to be a part of it.”
