Gran Hits Back at Trolls Calling Her ‘Weirdo’ for Running Santa’s Grotto in Bungalow: ‘I’m Just Spreading Christmas Cheer, Not Harm!

A Christmas-loving grandmother from Surrey has hit back at online trolls who branded her a “weirdo” for transforming her bungalow into a year-round Santa’s grotto. 68-year-old Edna McCluskey, who has been decked out in festive garb and hosting holiday-themed events for over a decade, said she won’t be “bullied by internet bullies” into stopping what she calls “the most magical thing in my life.”

McCluskey first started turning her home into a winter wonderland for local children over 15 years ago. What began as a modest display of twinkling lights, a miniature Christmas tree, and some homemade gingerbread cookies has grown into a full-scale, sparkling grotto complete with Santa, his elves, and even a reindeer (in inflatable form, of course).

“I’m just doing what I love,” Edna said, sitting proudly in her Christmas-themed armchair, which is covered in reindeer print. “I’m not hurting anyone, just spreading some joy. Christmas is all about family and goodwill, and I want to share that with the world, even if it’s just in my little bungalow.”

However, her festive passion has attracted some unwanted attention from online trolls who’ve labeled her a “weirdo” for turning her home into a permanent holiday hotspot. “Why would you want to live in Christmas 365 days a year? It’s just… odd,” one comment read. Another person added, “It’s like living in a Christmas movie, but it’s not the charming kind. It’s the one where the old lady goes too far.”

McCluskey, who calls her detractors “grumpy Scrooges,” was unfazed by the criticism. “It’s typical of people these days to tear others down for enjoying life. They’re probably the same ones who take down their decorations on Boxing Day. Me? I’ll have a snowman in my yard until Easter if I want to!”

Her unwavering holiday spirit has earned her the admiration of her local community, with children lining up every December for a visit to her magical grotto, complete with candy canes and homemade snowflakes. “It’s the highlight of the season,” said Sarah Jennings, a neighbor. “The kids absolutely adore it. And so do we!”

Edna’s message to the trolls? “Let me enjoy my Christmas. If you don’t like it, keep scrolling. I’ll be over here in my reindeer sweater, baking cookies and having a jolly good time.”
