Dawson is a long serving member of the Magpies’ coaching staff, but has also worked for the FA, like Foxes manager Steve Cooper
Cooper, only appointed himself a few weeks ago, has been busy putting his coaching team together after his predecessor, Enzo Maresca, took six staff with him when he moved from Leicester to Chelsea last month.
Alan Tate, Andrew Hughes, Danny Alcock and Steve Rands have already joined the former Nottingham Forest boss at the King Power Stadium, and now Dawson appears to be joining their ranks too. Chronicle Live reports that Dawson, a former FA coach with Cooper, wanted a new challenge working with senior players.
He first joined Newcastle in 2009 and stayed on for three years before his stint at the FA. He then took on a role as Peter Beardsley’s number 2 in 2014 and has held various roles with the Magpies since then.
Dawson helped the likes of Sean Longstaff, Freddie Woodman, Matty Longstaff, Adam Armstrong and Elliot Anderson progress through the ranks with Newcastle’s second string.
Speaking about his coaching style in 2019, Dawson told Chronicle Live: “A siege mentality is something you’d like all your teams to have. Regardless of the situation you’d want players to display those qualities when the muck and bullets are flying. We want to see resilience… give fans something positive to say after the games.”
